Wow. I love the finding motivation part of your book. I am also just starting a graphic novel in digital format, and I find myself running into the same walls, mostly with MYSELF, that you have listed here. Thank you for illustrating my/our “demons” in a way where I can more easily identify what my problems are. I am definitely hard on myself, work at the last minute and punish myself for being “lazy”. I hope I can put the tools I have read here to use and get motivated. Thank you. Congrats on you Kickstarter funding.
I just now discovered all the great stuff you created and while I was wondering, if this couldn’t be in book form, stumbled upon your kickstarter.
Congratulations on successfully gathering so much financial and non-material support!! I would have loved to back this project.. and I still would. So what I want to know is if there is still a way to contribute to it, even if it’s just a small amount of money.
Either way, thanks so far for helping so many people out there!
I can’t wait for the release of this book and wish you the best of luck for whatever you strife for.
Congratulations on your kickstarter! I am so glad so many people are as excited about what you’re doing as I am. I just heard about you recently and I am already a big fan. Looking forward to another book!
I just gulped down your book. Great stuff. Wise, profound in spots, and dosed with the right amount of humor to help it all go down. I’m a professor of writing and literature and my main background is fiction writing and teaching students to write short stories. I just passed on the link to my class as you reinforce, and expand on, so many of the things I teach. Great stuff and likely to help with my own writing too.
Thank you for writing this. It has made it so I understand my defaults and can now embrace them as positives. And I feel more confident in what I need to get done and how to go about getting there. Thank you so much!
Thank you, Stephen. I am new to sketch/art watercolor journaling, starting a year ago. Your link was sent to me this morning by one of my teachers, Amy Bogard, and could not have come at a more perfect time. Last night I was so frustrated and overwhelmed with what I DID NOT know, I was ready to give up. Your wonderful book has re inspired me. And as others have said, your incite and suggestions not only pertain to art, but to all creative endeavors. I am a jazz musician and your message hits home there as well. Thanks so much.
I purchased your novel and read it within a day because I couldn’t put it down.
It’s actually quite amazing how wise and inspirational your works are. You seem to have been able to express your skills as a cartoonist, inform readers quite effectively, inspire both novice and experienced artists/designers, as well as provide great advice all in 208 pages.
I stumbled upon your website one day after following some Facebook posts and it immediately caught my eye. I’m currently a college student completing a dual degree in Engineering and Industrial Design. The main reason I got into the design field was because I started loving to create and draw.
Your website and book could not have come to me at a better time (like many say). I’ve wondered where to start improving my skills or how to get inspired but your book seems to cover ever minute bit.
For future works, perhaps could you cover some areas like what to do when you find yourself wanting to do EVERYTHING at the same time? I find myself wanting to learn instruments, pick up a few languages, read books, write, draw, design, and I just can’t find enough time to fit all of them. I feel like since I’m not focusing on one, I’ve become above average at all and not the best at one.
I really, really hope that you continue making such motivational work and keep inspiring people like myself!
Thanks Felix! I’ll do that! I’m currently have two books in the works for this site. Great suggestions! I’ve gone through the very thing you’re describing with wanting to do everything. In the end I just tell myself, “Of course you’re going to make a book about everything under the sun in the future, but you may as well start with this one now.”
I’d love to have your work in it’s paper version. I could alvays and everywhere get motivaded It helped me alot, despite I haven’t read it all yet. Is there any book version of it I could buy or only the PDF?
Thank you! Your comics helped me alot, I’m pleased to hear that:)
Well, did you think about creating any new comic series in the internet if the Doodle Alley is done? You’ve got such a big talent. I really admire you, thanks to your works I’ve finally decided to buy a graphic tablet
Nobody has motivated me as strongly as you did. Keep doing it. It is really good job you do, motivating the humanity.
I would wager that chronicling experiences like this is/was one of the most enriching experiences for you and anyone who has made things like this. It seems very therapeutic, and I’ve started something (less philosophical, more light-hearted) in the same vein to test this theory first-hand. Glad to hear you’re going to keep making these, because they’re incredibly insightful, thought-provoking, and pure fun to read (and hopefully fun for you to make, of course)!
I’m extremely pleased to get this web site. I have to to thanks a lot to your time

Jason
