The Long Game

April 30, 2014

I usually don’t do reblogs on Doodle Alley, but this was too good.

The Long Game Part 1: Why Leonardo DaVinci was no genius from Delve on Vimeo.

The Long Game Part 2: the missing chapter from Delve on Vimeo.

It’s funny, I’ve written a book on this subject matter, and yet I still get impatient with the long game. When will I be there? Will I be able to win the game before I’m 30?

What do you guys think?

    Hey Stephen,
Thirty is so young. When you “Win the game” what will that mean? I suspect the long game is not about winning, but achieving little wins. When I hear “We won the game!”, I know the game is over. You are achieving little wins over a lifetime and living wins and loses along the way. Some of my biggest wins have come from discrete disappointments.

Very well said! While these essays express profound insights, they’re useful for perspective, not comparisons.

I think some people never win the game. Because if they win, the game is over.

Dado is so right. As long as you’re living, the game isn’t over.

Your book is out, and you’re not yet 30? That’s a win. My book has only recently gone into production, and I’m 47. Hopefully it’ll be out before I turn 48. ;)

Comparing to others isn’t the point. Not everyone will be Mozart, but not everyone will be Grandma Moses, either. We’re all on a different journey, with different timelines. The important thing is to do the thing you were made to do as best as you possibly can _in this moment._

      Well said! I agree.

I am really glad you decided to make a reblog exception for this. This was very much worth watching. I have that feeling all the time… like I should already have achieved something, and I’m so hung up on that feeling, that instead of doing something, I regret that I didn’t start earlier, and waste now lamenting that I have yet to have done something.

I think that you need to write more on this topic, it might nnot bbe a taboo subject but typically people do nott discuss
such subjects. To the next! Kind regards!!

A better method will be to study textbooks by different gurus and positives to master standard approach and theory.
